It’s one huge advertisement campaign for TrueCrypt. That app already got enourmous amount of press out of it.
I’m sure this is going to be another reason to turn on FileVault on my MacBook Pro. Thank goodness I don’t do a lot of traveling that requires me to go through customs.
I hate to tell you, but they are already doing that in the US. When you cross the border into the US, customs has the right to investigate any and all electronics you bring in with you including taking images of your laptop, phone and any other electronics you have. What is illegal for a normal policeman to do on the streets of the US if considered legal when youa re coming into the country. This has been upheld by the US courts several times, because they say that the more intrusive screening is to allow the US to protect it’s borders.
So, if you’re travelling to the US, my advice is to leave your laptop and other electronics at home. Or if you’re a US resident, don’t take them with you out of the country in the first place if you don’t want them examined when you cross back over the border.
