Yo Apple! What the Hell?

Ok, so a few months ago a friend of mine bought a new MacBook Pro 15″. You know, one of those with the new LED backlit screens. Well, he’s been having this issue from RichText. My friend has even commented on this article.

Today he got his MacBook Pro back from having sent it in to Apple to fix it. It’s still broken. Worse yet, they replaced his screen with a scratched one. This is unacceptable. Apple should be doing better than this. If you don’t know where the problem lies, at least acknowledge the problem and say you are working on a solution. The fact is there is a problem here, it’s ok if you don’t know exactly what’s causing it, but replacing screens with damaged ones that don’t actually fix the problem is unacceptable.

Very disappointed…

Update: The screen isn’t nicked, it was just a bit of something from the packaging that was being stubborn. But no cosmetic damage. Even still… It’s still broke and needs to be fixed.

I hope the screen gets fixed soon and Apple finds a way. So far I’ve been really happy with Apple, and compared to other companies I’ve experienced in the past, I do believe their support is a lot better.

No, I agree. My experience with Apple and AppleCare has been very positive over the last 6 years. However, my friend has not be as fortunate. And I really think they need to find a solution to this problem and get it fixed. I like to be able to tell people that Apple has the best support. But things like this make me want to crawl under my desk.

My experience with apple customer support has been minimal, but mediocre. They are not the worst, but they are not the best either. I’ve noticed a general lack of knowledge at the stores mostly, especially at the “Genius” Bars. I think they need to hire folks that have a little more experience than the current staff.

Bad service is bad. And it has to be Apple? This is one of my favorite brand. All along I have very good impression of Apple and have heard a lot of good things. Hope your friend get his Mac fix soon. Apple … I still have faith in you :)

I am a PC guy. But in 2004 I recomended a friend of mine to buy an iMac G5. After a litle while the fan stopped working and CPU overheated and halted the system. It got repaired but it happened again and again. Then - in 2007 the Apple seller here said that he will get a new one. It took ages. Apple used so much time to approve the return and new deliver that we almost lost hope. Last week he got a new iMac.
Apple and the Apple sellers are an arrogant bunch of self-loving creatures. But they have so many customers that they don’t care if they loose a 1000 or 2. I will never recommend Apple again to my customers and friends. I am telling this story to all my customers who have hundreds of Macs. I am asking them to forward my story to their contacts too.
My friend used Applehuset in Bergen, Norway.

Ok, now I don’t want to push this too far. I want to make it clear that I like Apple, and I have never had a problem with Apple or AppleCare. I have always gotten then done quickly, easily and without any frustration at all.

The other piece I want to caution is to pick a single event and use that to make a decision about ANY company. I am a web developer, technologies and consultant. I work very hard to make sure my customer’s are happy. It is not, however, possible to make everyone happy in every situation. I would not want someone to take something that I was not proud of and use it as an example how my work in general. My experience with Apple is exactly the same.

Yes, they are going to make mistakes. Yes things are not going to be handled perfectly every single time. Companies are full of people and people make mistakes.

One other thing to think about. Perfection is the enemy of good.
