What. The. Hell.

Excuse the language, but this is just EXACTLY what I was thinking as well.

I couldn’t imagine leaving my kids in the car. Forgetting them is just not something I can even fathom. How in the world are you so completely self-absorbed to do something like this?

J

What. The. Hell.: “How the fuck do people ‘forget’ to drop their kids off at day care?

Explain this to me, in a way, that I shall understand, and I MAY shut up.

you can’t? well fuck off, then. Because holy cow…Jezek Lane would NEVER EVER be left in a damn car because I was so fucking stupid as to not ‘REALIZE’ that I ‘forgot’ to take him somewhere. He is a piece of me. A part of me. I can’t not know he is not there.

Those poor little boys who lost their lives in cars. Holy shit. Tears.

Um, Excuse Me, Can I Suggest Something Here?

Ok, so I’ve been thinking. While listening to the MacCast this morning something has started to float around in my brain. And it’s starting to annoy me.

So, Apple drops the “Computer” from its name. Steve Jobs says Apple is a software company. Snow Leopard is going to be Intel only. Apple says in a conference call we’ve created an umbrella under which competition has lived for far to long.

So, in September, Apple has something big showing up. Everyone is on the same page with that at this point. So I have a theory about what exactly it’s going to be.

Vista is a disaster, every one hates it, no matter what Microsoft says about Mojave. Apple is on the top of the ladder at the moment, Microsoft is struggling to get any attention, at least any GOOD attention.

I think Apple is going to release Snow Leopard as Intel only. I am just more and more convinced that it’s not going to be Apple hardware only. There are just some compelling arguments that Apple could do this. Could they pull it off? I don’t know. There are some real support issues with releasing Mac OS X for generic hardware.

I don’t know if this is it, but it’s something that my friend Maxx and I have been thinking and talking about for a few years now. I am more and more convinced that it’s going to happen, and happen sooner rather than later.

If you do the math, it’s much cheaper to burn a massive amount of DVDs to push it to the public, versus building and marketing a new computer or device to people. The hardware between and Mac and a PC is generally identical, so support wouldn’t have to be taught a new skill. Not to mention how this would drive the sales of other Apple hardware, like Time Capsules for example.

Just my two cents.

Time Machine Saves My Butt Again

MarsEditScreenSnapz001.png

So I have been working on this little project that currently has 29 spreadsheets. Well, I should say, 29 workbooks because that’s the more accurate term.

One of the things in this process involved taking a previous spreadsheet, changing some dates and other relevant information and then saving it with a new file name. Pretty sure you can see where this is going. So I hit the COMMAND+S for save in Excel instead of COMMAND+SHIFT+S for “Save As” over-writing my previous workbook.

After contemplating harey cary for a few minutes, it became apparent that Time Machine would have run a backup in between the two edits. So, 1/2 praying while hovering the mouse over the Time Machine icon on the dock, and anticipating the feeling of nausea from the animation (Yes, sometimes, it induces motion sickness here. Of course that could just be the feeling of having lost something and hoping against hope that it will be in the backup.), I depressed the left mouse button.

And there it was, one click back in the past. Literally 3 mouse clicks and a file that was only created about an hour before was restored from the depths of stupidity. Becoming a serious fan of Time Machine. This is the 3rd time it has recovered something. Once was the full computer with it wouldn’t boot up properly, and two other times when it was just a simple mistake. Might be time to let Time Machine grow a bit and get it a bigger drive… Or maybe…

Happy Birthday iMac

701B7FA0-07F0-40A5-BA74-4506E3986526.jpg

Today the iMac turns 10 years old. Happy birthday little guy.

The iMac has really changed a lot in the last ten years. It’s great that it’s been so consistent. The iMac is starting to feel like the Honda Accord or Toyota Camry of the computer industry. It might not be the flashiest, most powerful, or biggest, however, it’s going to be reliable, versatile, and will perform most of what a “typical” computer user wants and needs to do.

There are 2 of the older “Five Flavors” iMacs around the house that the kids still use to play games and such that have been perfectly useable. Great machines then, great machines now. Absolutely awesome!
